Making the Most of Summer: Inclusive Activities
Summer is here, a season brimming with promise and excitement. At VIVA Pediatrics, we understand that every child, including those with mobility challenges, deserves to experience the joy and freedom of summer. Let’s explore a few wonderful activities that cater to all children and provide meaningful ways for parents to engage and bond with their kids.
Adaptive Water Sports
Water sports are fantastic because the water naturally accommodates different levels of mobility. Activities like adaptive swimming or paddle boarding are fun and great for physical therapy. Parents can join in by guiding the paddle or swimming alongside their children, ensuring safety and sharing in the exhilaration of water play. Look for local parks or organizations that offer sessions with professionals trained to support families in these activities. This shared experience can boost confidence and strengthen bonds through shared achievements.
Inclusive Playgrounds
Modern playgrounds designed with inclusivity in mind allow children of all abilities to play and explore side by side. These playgrounds feature wheelchair swings, ramps, and other adaptive equipment. Parents can actively participate by assisting their children on and off different playground structures and engaging in imaginative play that stimulates cognitive and social development.
Accessible Art Workshops
Engaging in the arts provides a wonderful sensory experience for children and an opportunity for creative expression. Many community centers and museums offer art workshops that are adapted for children with special needs. These workshops can include accessible crafting tables and adaptive art tools. Parents can participate by creating alongside their children, helping them with techniques, or simply encouraging their artistic expressions.
Family Movie Nights at Drive-in Theaters
Drive-in theaters are excellent for families who prefer a more controlled environment where children can remain in their vehicle but still engage in a communal activity. These venues allow families to bring along any necessary medical equipment or comfort items, making the movie experience enjoyable and stress-free. Parents and children can pick films together, share snacks, and discuss their favorite parts of the movie, creating a cozy, memorable family night out.
By focusing on these activities, we can ensure that every family has the opportunity to enjoy summer to the fullest. These experiences are not just about participation but about creating memories, sharing joy, and building lasting bonds. Let’s embrace the possibilities of summer, ensuring it’s a season of inclusivity, growth, and shared happiness.

                Sip into Summer!
As the sun shines brighter and our days grow warmer, keeping our little ones hydrated and happy is crucial. This June, let Giggles guide you through fun and refreshing ways to stay hydrated!
Water Wonders:
Water is the best choice for staying hydrated. Encourage kids to sip water throughout the day, especially before, during, and after playtime. Jazz up plain water with a splash of natural flavors like slices of cucumber, strawberries, or lemons to make hydration exciting!
Frozen Treats:
Beat the heat with homemade popsicles. Use fruit juice, chunks of fresh fruit, or yogurt to create delicious and healthy frozen delights.
Hydration Station:
Set up a colorful hydration station in your home. Decorate a small table with cups, straws, and pitchers of infused water or natural juices. Let your kids serve themselves; they’ll love playing host and are more likely to drink more often.
Thirsty Games:
Create games that include drinking water. Maybe every time someone scores a point or finishes a round, everyone takes a drink. It’s a fun reminder that drinking water can be a natural part of playtime.
Remember that staying hydrated is key to a safe and energetic season. Let’s drink up and enjoy the sunny days with smiles and sips!
