Hello February!

Leading With Love

February, the month of Valentine's day is often associated with love. Here at VIVA, love is at the center of everything we do. In home health and at our PPECCs, leading with love isn't just a phrase. It's a daily commitment to showing up with compassion, patience, and genuine care for every family that we serve.

What It Means to Lead With Love

Leading with love means seeing each child as more than their diagnosis. It means listening to families, respecting their routines, and honoring the trust they place in us to care for their most precious loves ones. Our nurses, therapists, and staff lead with love when they celebrate each and every milestone, offer reassurance in hard moments, and day after day provide consistent, skilled care.

Love in Action, Everyday

In pediatric home health and PPECC care, love shows up in countless ways:

  • A nurse taking extra time to comfort a nervous child
  • Care teams learning each family’s unique routines, preferences, and goals
  • Supporting parents and siblings as active, valued members of the care team
  • Encouraging growth, independence, play, and joy

A February Reminder

As we celebrate love this month, we're reminded that leading with love isn't just a one month out of the year thing. Leading with love is how we guide our care year round, whether at home or at a PPECC. It's a commitment to quality, our respect for our families, and our dedication to helping children live fuller, happier lives. Thank you to our incredible families who inspire us every day. Your strength, trust, and love are what makes what we do so meaningful.

Coming Soon!

We’re excited to share some big news! We are opening two new PPECC facilities this year! Our newest locations will be opening in Hurst and The Colony, allowing us to serve even more kiddos and support more families in our community.

PPECCs (Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Centers) provide skilled nursing care in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally supportive setting during the day. These new centers reflect our continued commitment to expanding access to high-quality pediatric care while giving families more options closer to home.

We can’t wait to welcome new families, build strong care teams, and create spaces where children can receive the medical care they need while still getting to be kids.

Spotlight on PPECC

From VIVA's Own Lubbock PPECC

“Later last month, the weather quickly went from bad to downright ugly, leading us to close for three days to ensure the safety of our children, families, and staff. While we missed seeing our kiddos during that time, their safety is always our top priority. As conditions improved, our team showed incredible dedication and heart, stepping up and returning ready to provide the compassionate, skilled care our children rely on each day. Their flexibility, commitment, and willingness to come back strong after the closure reflect the passion they have for the families we serve. Moments like these remind us that our PPECC is more than just a care center — it’s a community, and we are so grateful to our staff for their resilience and to our families for their patience and understanding as we safely welcomed everyone back.”

Happy Heart Month !

American Heart Month: Caring From the Heart

February is American Heart Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about heart health and honoring the incredible strength of those who live with congenital heart conditions. At VIVA Pediatrics, heart health isn't a once a year conversation, it's woven into the care we provide every single day.

What Heart Means to Us

To us, heart is more than just an organ, it means compassion, resilience, and connection. It's the way our nurses and PPECC staff show up for families on those long days, the trust parents place in us to care for their children, and the courage we see in our patients who meet big challenges with even bigger strength. Many the patients we serve live with complex cardiac conditions , and their journeys remind us daily why we do what we do. Supporting these kiddos and their families is an honor that we cherish deeply.

National Wear Red Day

To honor American Heart Month, the first Friday of February has been deemed "wear red day". Wear Red Day is a national movement to raise awareness about heart disease and congenital heart conditions. We encourage our care teams, families, and community to join in on this tradition of wearing red as a simple but powerful show of support for heart warriors everywhere.

Understanding Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS)

Many of the children we serve are living with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a complex congenital heart defect present at birth. HLHS occurs when the left side of the heart is underdeveloped, making it difficult for the heart to pump oxygen rich blood to the body.

Children with HLHS often require a series of surgeries early in life and ongoing specialized care as they grow. Life with HLHS can mean frequent doctors visits, careful monitoring, and a strong support system.

Our role at VIVA is to bridge the gap between hospital and home by providing skilled, compassionate care in a familiar environment. Whether it's monitoring vital signs, managing medical equipment, or supporting daily routines, our goal is to help children with HLHS thrive while providing confidence and peace of mind to their families.
