PPECC UPDATE
We are excited to say that our new PPECCs in The Colony as well as in Hurst have started taking patients. We are hiring and accepting new patients. Please spread the word about our amazing PPECC facilities!
PPECCs (Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Centers) provide skilled nursing care in a safe, nurturing, and developmentally supportive setting during the day. These new centers reflect our continued commitment to expanding access to high-quality pediatric care while giving families more options closer to home.
We can’t wait to welcome new families, build strong care teams, and create spaces where children can receive the medical care they need while still getting to be kids.

What We Do
Understanding PPECC: Comprehensive Care for Children and Support for Families
At VIVA, our mission is to provide specialized care that helps children thrive while supporting families every step of the way. Many parents are unfamiliar with what a PPECC is and the valuable services that it offers. We would like to share more about how our team helps children receive the medical, therapeutic, and developmental support they need in one caring environment.
What is PPECC?
A Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care Center (PPECC) is a licensed medical daycare designed for children with complex medical needs. PPECCs provide skilled nursing care in a safe, child-friendly setting during the day, allowing children to receive necessary medical support while participating in age-appropriate activities and social interactions.
Our experienced healthcare team works closely with physicians, families, and therapists to ensure each child receives individualized care tailored to their unique needs.
What Care Will My Child Receive?
Children attending PPECCs receive ongoing skilled nursing care from trained pediatric healthcare professionals. Services may include:
- Medication administration
- Respiratory and tracheostomy care
- Feeding tube management
- Monitoring of chronic medical conditions
- Developmental and social activities
- Coordination of care with physicians and specialists
Our goal is to provide a nurturing environment where children can safely receive medical care while enjoying opportunities to learn, play, and interact with their peers.
Therapy Services Available at PPECCs
One of the many benefits of attending PPECCs is access to therapy services within the center. Depending on your child's needs and physician orders, children may receive:
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Occupational therapists help children develop skills needed for everyday activities, including fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care tasks, and independence.
Physical Therapy (PT)
Physical therapists focus on improving strength, balance, mobility, coordination, and gross motor development to help children reach their fullest physical potential.
Speech Therapy (ST)
Speech-language pathologists support communication skills, language development, feeding abilities, and swallowing functions when appropriate.
By offering these therapies in the same setting where children receive nursing care, we help create a coordinated and convenient approach to treatment.
Supporting Development Through Education
VIVA is proud to have an Educational Developmental Services Coordinator on staff. This important role focuses on planning and implementing activities that support each child's developmental growth and learning. The coordinator works with our healthcare and therapy teams to create engaging experiences that promote cognitive, social, emotional, and developmental milestones.
These activities help children continue learning and growing while receiving the specialized medical care they need.
Partnering With Families
At VIVA, we believe families are an essential part of every child's success. We are committed to providing compassionate care, open communication, and comprehensive services that help children achieve their greatest potential.
If you would like to learn more about our programs or services, our team is always happy to answer your questions and help determine whether PPECCS may be a good fit for your child.
